Golden Hour Magic in the Black Hills | A Playful Couple's Photo Session

There are sessions that feel more like spending time with old friends than work—and this was absolutely one of those.

As the sun began its slow descent behind the rugged hills, I met up with the sweetest couple for a golden hour session in one of my favorite hidden gems in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The warmth in the sky matched the energy they brought: full of laughter, light-hearted teasing, and a love so genuine it was contagious.

The Black Hills never disappoint, especially in the fall. The tall grass had turned a warm golden hue, and the light kissed everything in sight with that soft, dreamy glow photographers live for. We hiked in, chatting along the way, and when we reached our spot, it was like the landscape was tailor-made just for them.

What made this session extra special was their thoughtfulness and creativity. Halfway through, they changed outfits for some cozy holiday-inspired shots—complete with a sprig of mistletoe! It was such a fun touch, and I could already imagine these images gracing their Christmas cards this winter. There's something magical about capturing those joyful, intimate moments that couples create just for themselves (and a few lucky family and friends come holiday season!).

Sessions like this are why I love what I do. Getting to document real love, in real places, with people who aren’t afraid to be silly, snuggle close, and just be—it’s an honor every time.
